Implementing a practice change

This stage turns planning into action – helping you choose and apply the right strategies to overcome barriers and sustain change.

Implementation is about putting evidence into action – adapting research to your local context, engaging stakeholders, and addressing resistance. You’ll now apply the evidence and planning work completed in earlier steps to make measurable change in your service.

Implementing Change

Focus on selecting and applying implementation strategies that help turn evidence and planning into measurable change.

Understanding implementation: Concepts, Facilitation, Strategies

Having a good idea or strong evidence is not enough to influence and bring about change, especially when the change is complex.

Facilitating change involves supporting stakeholders to recognise the need for change and creating opportunities for people and groups to participate in the process.

  • Facilitation is both a role and a process. In i-PARIHS, facilitation is the active ingredient that enables change by aligning innovation, recipients, and context.
  • Implementation strategies are the specific actions or methods used to put evidence into practice, such as education, audit and feedback, or leadership engagement.

Facilitation: How to implement change in a complex environment.

Implementation Strategies: How to select and apply implementation strategies using behavioural frameworks.
